Historic neighborhoods are a window to the past and their
homes provide a glimpse into the lives of the families who
built them and the era, economy and society in which they
lived. Homes in older neighborhoods tend to vary in
architectural style and materials and many are named for
the families who inhabited them over the years. Modern
adaptations and changes to the original structures and
landscaping are common. In many cases, these neighborhoods
become a reflection of how a city grows; once stately
neighborhoods can fall out of favor as newer areas are
built, and blighted areas can be resuscitated with new life
